Suzanne, you bring up a very good point! Where are all the distributors?
I'd rather not name my source, but I had a very lengthy conversation today with someone about the distributors (or lack thereof).
Awhile back when there was talk about having distributors throughout the country everyone was so gung ho about it! Each distributor was to pay $30,000 - $40,000 (correct me if I'm wrong on the figures) up front to TSIG and then it would be in their best interests to get out there and sell as many cards as they could to recoup their investment. Sounded like a good idea, didn't it? Well the rumor now is that TSIG has decided to trash the idea of distributors! Why in the world would they do that?
IMO programs like Lifetime Learning will have a MUCH better chance of success if there were distributors to go into the schools and really explain the program. I used to work in a school, and I can tell you that everyday literature on fund raisers comes in and a good portion of them are tossed into the circular file! But if someone actually makes a phone call AND comes into the school to explain the program there is a far better chance that the PTA or Music Dept or Baseball Team will go for that particular fund raiser.
Can you imagine just how successful the Babe Ruth card would have been had there been distributors around to talk to the leagues?
From my experience with PTA fund raisers, the ones that always worked the best were the ones that had real people come in to the school and explain it to the students during an assembly and get them all riled up so that they couldn't wait to get home to start selling!
As far as incentives, in the elementary school something as simple as lunch with the principal at Burger King would be enough for the kids to have a selling frenzy. In middle school and high school, it would have to be a different incentive, but the distributors would know from experience what works with these age groups too! In our high school a great incentive would be a parking spot in the main lot! It gets mighty cold here in the winter!
This post is getting rather lengthy, but I really hope that TSIG has not given up on the distributors, because IMO if they have, the Lifetime Learning deal will end up as big a bust as the Babe Ruth deal was.
