Dave,

<< Eric has been parading around this evolved GSM network stuff >>

Parading to you, is keeping pace with the evolution of 2G to 2.5G to 3G, to me. Since specifications are not complete (or harmonized) some conjecture is involved.

<< WCDMA will somehow be something other than a CDMA network >>

WCDMA is not a CDMA network, Dave, so far as I can discern. If you have info to the contrary please point me to it. I'm in a learning mode, not a teaching mode

cdmaOne and cdma2000 are specifications for CDMA networks. WCDMA (UTRA) is the air interface for UMTS which is an end to end network specification.
