A little BIT of growth- NEC to Boost Output of 128M DRAM Chips, Become Biggest Maker, Nikkei Says By Tak Kumakura Tokyo, Sept. 16 (Bloomberg) -- NEC Corp., Japan's largest maker of personal computers and microchips, plans to become the world's largest producer of 128-megabit dynamic random-access memory chips by raising its monthly production to 8 million from the current 1 million, the Nihon Keizai newspaper said, without citing sources. The company at the same time will halve its output of 64-megabit DRAM chips next year from the current 10 million a month. NEC's chip division, which posted a 30 billion yen ($285 million) loss for the year ended March 31, wants to improve its business performance, the report said. NEC fell 15 yen Tuesday to 2,235; markets were closed yesterday for a national holiday. (Nihon Keizai, 9/16, p.11)(www.nikkei.co.jp)
