TO THE THREAD:
Summary of test equipment procedures and purchases. As far as I am aware, there are a minimum of three tests involved in producing RIMMs: Test core of RDRAM at low speed; test at high speed 800 MHz data rate; test RIMM at high speed 800 mHz data rate. Vendors that have announced sales of equipment are as follows: Advantest makes a massively parallel tester for low speed tests of RDRAM; HP and Slumberger make high speed RDRAM test equipment; Tanisys, Slumberger and HP make high speed RIMM test equipment. At this time, I am unaware of Teradyne and AHER sales wins.

Regarding RDRAM/RIMM manufacturers, NEC and Samsung have gone with Slumberger; LG has bought HP equipment
Toshiba has definitely bought or is going to buy something because they appear to have several RDRAM and RIMM validated by Intel and will have to deliver RIMMs to SONY soon. Infineon, Hyundai and any other RDRAM licensees appear have not ordered test equipment yet.
Among RIMM assemblers, Celestica has purchased Tanisys equipment; Kingston has HP and Advantest equipment and Smart Modular Technologies has HP equipment.

I can't see how they can produce meaningful, realible quantities of RIMM's without test equipment. If you are a RDRAM manufacturer, you need HP or Slumberger equipment. I will call HP PR department to see what they have sold to customers not listed on their web site.

I find it strange that Micron has not placed an order of test equipment yet. Snippet from Jun 30 MU financials:

SELECTED FINANCIAL DATA Jun. 3, 1999

Cash and liquid investments $1,660.5 $649.6
Receivables 561.5 489.5

It's good to see they haven't spent Intel's money yet.
