i put in the bold but i got this from the 1998 annual report on the Qualcomm website. Here's the link: qualcomm.com

The Next Generation
QUALCOMM is leading the way to the next level of wireless communications with an extensive portfolio of intellectual property. The next frontier involves efficiently delivering high-speed data rates, and we are rapidly evolving CDMA technology to do so. In 1999, we expect to deploy IS-95-C, the standard bandwidth version of CDMA2000, which will double system capacity and improve "medium" data rate performance (up to 144 kilobits per second). Approximately nine months later we plan to deploy our "high" data rate technology (HDR), which will provide up to 1.5 megabits per second.
