Until recently I was complacently acceptant of the idea of capital punishment. But a very wise person explained to me recently that "it's not about them, it's about us". Effectively we make a poor moral bargain if we repay murder with murder. Is that who we want to be? For extreme criminals there is a simple, practical and imo morally cleaner way to deal with them - life without parole. The near-kicker is that a capital case is so expensive and politically twisted in its ten-plus years of courtroom life that life without parole exacts no economic penalty.
The real kicker is that the asshole politicians like to use the death penalty as a cheap, dramatic substitute for really actually caring about crime. Let's deny them this bit of hypocrisy. Fwiw

Another good note on capital punishment!

<< over 95% guilty and the defendant should be executed on national television by the same method of violence with which the victim was killed. >>

I like this! But, it would have to be G rated so potential young criminals could watch.

I find it nuts when they catch someone who is guilty without a shadow of a doubt, and then we spend millions of dollars of taxpayer money defending him and giving the lowlife an expensive trial.

I'd like to see an immediate end to taxpayer funded lawyers for those that have been convicted of two felonies or more.

We have to work and earn everything we get. Why should life long felons get free (taxpayer funded) lawyers time after time after time! After two convictions the dirtbags should have to defend themselves, or pay for their own lawyers.

Hey guy, jla was right about you. You write interesting notes, although sometimes you lose your temper, such as with turddog. Maybe you can be forgiven for that by some of the clerics on this board. <g>
