Don't forget the downside in the after market hours trading. It's all done with limit orders. People are fishing, hoping to get a higher price. Wide spread, they think, and then...

biz.yahoo.com

A press release, after market hours, but while there are still "over priced" limit asks sitting on Island.

They weren't there at 7:00pm eastern time, I looked.

Snapped up by the fastest after hours traders, at the expense of the unweary seller that left that "over priced" ask hanging out in this suddenly gusty breeze. Originally hoping some over zealous buyer would be willing to take it, but now...it's just gone...

Dan,

When I was watching ORCL premarket yesterday, I didn't have a clue where the natural open would be. I don't think the inclusion of ECNs will change that much. You can take your chances and get in/out if you must, but you're taking a gamble by not knowing the real supply and demand. I suppose "out of the money" limits will become common to try to take advantage of the wide swings.

For traders though, don't think either pre-market or after-market activity means much of anything for now.

Alan

Dan,

You may be right but my feeling is that it is going to take a long time to change old patterns. Even for us daytraders. <<gg>>
