He is playing the classic analyst's game of trying to right no matter what happens to the stock. By keeping his rating the same, yet also making his famous 'sell' call, he will try some revisionist history next year and hope people don't remember.

Yet another reason why an analyst's rating is irrelevant. Niles continues to surprise me with the accuracy of his earnings and revenues estimates for DELL and INTC of late, though, and that makes him worth noticing, at least, as long as you can manage to ignore him when he starts giving his opinion on the stock.
