Reading the hype of some individuals who favor specific "Direct Access brokers" confuses many on this point IMO.

are completely correct, I believe. I have no doubt that this is true, not only for experienced traders, but also for the neophytes. People starting out in this business need to look at it as a business, and not with the delusions of immense wealth that clouds the vision of beginners. Scalpers are lucky to make a dime per share, so a good commission schedule is critical to survival.
