September 16, 1999 06:20 Virgin Entertainment Group to Offer Instant Digital Internet Downloading of Music, Games and Other Entertainment Content LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 16, 1999-- Revolutionary Virgin JamCast(TM) Service Ends the Wait! Virgin Entertainment Group announced Thursday that it will begin offering consumers a revolutionary service that allows them to download their favorite music and games while putting an end to incessant waiting for downloading to finish. The service, dubbed "Virgin JamCast," uses background Internet downloading to bring pre-selected digital entertainment content to consumers' PCs or set-top boxes, eliminating the wait--consumers' principal source of frustration. Virgin JamCast is a product collaboration between Virgin Entertainment Group, an aggressive and innovative retailer of digital entertainment content that owns and operates the chain of Virgin Megastores, Virgin Megastore Online (www.virginmega.com), and related assets, and Wavo Corp. (NASDAQ:WAVO), a leading digital media services provider. As part of the agreement, both parties have formed, and are significant equity owners of, JamCast.com Inc.; in addition, Virgin Entertainment Group has received warrants to purchase equity in Wavo Corp. Virgin JamCast's Internet broadcasts utilize Wavo's Asynchronous Reliable Multicast proprietary technology and its existing nationwide network for broadcasting data to TV tuner cards, leveraging Wavo receiver software that already is bundled in more than 43 million copies of Microsoft Windows 98 and in TV tuner cards from leading manufacturers. It also is anticipated that Wavo's strategic relationship with set-top box manufacturer General Instrument eventually will enable the delivery of Virgin JamCast entertainment content to a whole new class of consumer devices. Users may pre-register for the Virgin JamCast service today on the Web at www.jamcast.com. Additionally, independent artists are welcome to sign-up with Virgin JamCast for distribution of their music online. The rebranded service is expected to become fully operational later in the fourth quarter. "Virgin JamCast is another example of our continuing commitment to serve our customers," said Russ Pillar, Virgin Entertainment Group's president and chief executive officer. "We've made a pledge to get entertainment content into consumers' hands when, how, and in the format that they want it, and are pleased to add Virgin JamCast to our arsenal in this endeavor." "Virgin JamCast holds great promise for simplifying what traditionally has been a laborious process for downloading music," added Glen Ward, Virgin E-Commerce's president. "The service further highlights our dedication to providing our online consumers with choice, which is something for which Virgin is renowned. It's an exciting--and logical--extension of our current online offering." "We are delighted to be Virgin's partner in this service," said David Deeds, Wavo Corp.'s chairman and chief executive officer. "Virgin is the perfect partner to help commercialize a technology that represents an enhancement to the music consumer's experience."
