Network Associates Enhances Web Site Access With Metromedia Fiber Networks's AboveNet Communications
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 15, 1999--

AboveNet's Reliable, High Bandwidth Network Increases Web Site Availability and Facilitates Software Downloads

AboveNet Communications Inc., a subsidiary of Metromedia Fiber Network, Inc. (Nasdaq:MFNX), and the architect of a global one-hop network that brings together high-bandwidth content sites, ISPs and Application Service Providers (ASPs) in centralized co-location facilities, today announced that Network Associates, Inc. the world's leading provider of network security and management software has joined AboveNet's San Jose Internet Service Exchange (ISX). AboveNet's 18.2 Gbps of available bandwidth will help ensure easy access to Network Associates' Web Site (www.nai.com) during periods of heavy traffic, such as virus outbreaks. AboveNet's more than 273 private and public peering relationships with leading ISPs in the U.S. and around the world can also provide Network Associates customers worldwide with fast and reliable access to the company's Web Site.

"Enterprises depend on Network Associates to protect their networks and provide fast relief when viruses such as the Melissa Virus or the CIH Virus strike," said Doug Cavit, Director of Information Technology at Network Associates. "Access to the Web Sites and the ability to download software are critical to this protection. AboveNet's reliable Internet connectivity, and its ability to handle surges in Internet traffic were key factors in our decision to co-locate our servers at its San Jose ISX."

By leveraging AboveNet's fault-tolerant co-location services and Internet connectivity, Network Associates will enhance the availability of its Web servers. AboveNet guarantees that each of its clients will have available 100% headroom -- or twice their average bandwidth usage -- at all times. With this capacity, surges in Internet traffic, or spikes, are not a problem, and large digital files, such as virus alerts and updates, can be delivered to customers quickly and consistently regardless of the number of users downloading files at the same time.

"AboveNet is the optimal co-location choice for businesses like Network Associates that depend on fast, reliable and scalable, Internet connectivity to serve their customers worldwide," said David Rand, AboveNet's Chief Technology Officer. "Our highly redundant and secure network, exceptional bandwidth, and superior service enable our clients to maintain uninterrupted communication with their customers even during peak traffic periods or power outages."
