Agreement Enables AOL Canada to Provide Broadband-Enhanced
Features;
Trial Set to Begin This Fall
ST. JOHN'S, NF/TORONTO, Sept. 16 /CNW/ - Regional
Cablesystems Inc. and AOL Canada Inc. today announced an
agreement in which AOL Canada will introduce high speed
broadband access over cable. Service will begin this fall with
Regional Cablesystems customers in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario.
As part of this introduction, AOL Canada will enable
members in Sturgeon Falls to experience broadband-enhanced
multimedia, streaming video, music and other upgrade features
quickly and easily. In addition, the "always-on" connection and
the ability for members to use their computer while they are on
the telephone or sending or receiving a fax will enable these
members to extend AOL's traditional ease of use and
convenience.
"AOL Canada's agreement with Regional Cablesystems
reinforces our commitment to find new ways to offer our members
broadband upgrade options on all emerging high speed platforms
as they become ready for the mass market," said Stephen
Bartkiw, CEO, AOL Canada. "Our relationship with Regional
Cablesystems is a great example of how AOL Canada is moving
towards providing our members with broadband options that meet
our requirements of being affordable, accessible and
easy-to-install."
The companies will explore opportunities to broaden their
relationship and introduce broadband cable access options to
Canadian consumers next year.
