JAPAN SEMICONDUCTOR MAKING EQUIPMENT SALES UP 44.3% IN JULY

TOKYO - Sales of semiconductor fabrication equipment in Japan, including imports, were 51.914 billion yen in July, up 44.3% from a year ago, the Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan said on Wednesday.

Behind the sharp rise is increasing capital expenditure by memory fabricating companies, buoyed by rising demand for chips used in personal computers, cellular phones and digital home appliances, industry analysts said.
