qdog: A few comments of my own (as posted on Ericy Yahoo!).

Lucent, the sleeping giant of old, has certainly awoken of late.

They are finally delivering viable solutions, something neglected from very early on when the first 2G systems were deployed. Nortel, I believe, still have some problems even if you count the recent orders you mentioned.

Derive what you will from the AT&T and BT agreement, but they will have much more clout than a Vodafone-BAM deal, just because of their near incumbent status. The deal mentions collective sourcing and dual-mode phones are very much on the way by the top three mobile phone vendors.

The GPRS market will heat up in the next 6 to 9 months and yes Lucent will be there. However, I heard from a good source that vendor selection for GPRS is based on the preferred supplier for 3G systems. They make tend to make the 3G decision first then backtrack the evolution path. Now if this is true, please note Ericsson is currently leading the GPRS contract race.

Succinct enough I think.
