wmolloy, I agree; I think the issue here is mostly evolution.

Religion comes in tangentially and we should not get
bogged down into a detailed discussion about any religion .or any evolutionary steps in nature.

The real issue here is should they both,, or one, be
taught in high schools.

The Catholic Church I believe has a sound approach to
this.
It teaches that at present you can prove neither : neither that " unguided evolution "
occurred, or that God exists. In Catholicism the
existence of
God is a matter of faith; it cannot be proven.

Thus they teach both but with emphasis on the
"faith" aspect of the existence of God, based on
observation of nature, history and the Bible.
No proof. Millions of Catholics agree
and want their children to continue in that .

The State has no right to restrict
their tax moneys repeat,
their tax moneys to the exclusive teaching of evolution in the public school especially
as it is tended to be taught " as a fact " to
the exclusion of Divine existence.

That is contrary to the Constitution.

I think that coerced taxation to support the public
school system to the point were parents are
financially unable to teach their
religious beliefs to children,
is unconstitutional, because it deprives them of
their constitutional right to educate their children
in their own religion ( from Catholicism to Buddhism ),
and should be abolished.

In fact it is: first step is the voucher system.
Next will be the abolition of the public school as we
know it.

I believe the future public school will only survive
the fierce discipline of the USA
marketplace
if it can sell parents the benefits
of their model: an atheistic model.

In my opinion that will fail because as Dostojevsky wrote
in The Karamazov brothers ", if there is no God everything is permitted . And we see that in
today's society, were every human perversion is permitted
on TV and all sorts of crimes are forgiven.

People are now refusing that lifestyle which is why they are rebelling via voucher systems,
