Titan has emerged as the sixth largest 'manufacturer brand' in the world after Casio, Citizen, Seiko, Swatch and Timex of America, in the watch business.

Manufacturer-brands are those wherein you own the brand as well as make the product. Such a brand is different from a brand such as "Guess' where the brand owners own only the right to the name. Titan over the last 12 years has built a strong manufacturing capacity with a highly integrated plant, which virtually makes all the parts that go into a watch.

Titan in 1998-99 sold 4.76 million watches in the domestic market. Cumulatively it has sold more than 30 million watches so far. The return on capital employed for the domestic watch business is over 20 per cent.

Facets of 'thana' culture
dawn.com
Here it is, DON'T BLAME THE BJP, RSS, SS FOR THESE AND OTHERS.
Police, Culprits and Govt in hand and glove against citizens

THE Dawn report on Tuesday on the corruption and oppression which go to make up what is
loosely called "thana culture" underlines the basic problems plaguing law enforcement. Coming in the wake of repeated avowals by the Punjab chief minister to change the attitudes and conditions prevalent at police stations, it is an indictment of the government's failure to take the
needed remedial action. The report quoted specific instances of abuse suffered by citizens at the hands of the police. These range from extortion, torture and rape to illegal detention and harassment. Deliberate delays are caused in the registration of cases either to favour culprits or to put pressure on complainants to agree to a compromise.

Torture of suspects leading to tragic results is a common occurrence. Action taken against errant
policemen is usually not commensurate with the gravity of their crime. Recurrent reports of fake encounters and of police working in concert with criminals have further eroded whatever little public confidence there was in the force. Exceptions apart, but the hard reality is that the
ordinary citizen, horrified by the brutality and uncouth ways of the police, shudders to approach a police station to register a complaint. Clearly, the force's colonial orientation has played a major role in all this, but misuse of police for political purposes by successive governments has contributed significantly to the indiscipline and corruption that pervade its ranks.

It is necessary to change the orientation of the police and introduce modern training programmes in line with the needs of the times. Human and civil rights issues must be accorded due respect, and it is essential to improve monitoring of police conduct so that the force is answerable for its
acts of commission and omission. But it must also be ensured that political intervention in its working is effectively checked. The khidmat committees should see that there are no illegal detentions and that the police operate within the parameters of the law. To discourage third-degree methods, a serious initiative is needed to promote scientific methods of investigation.
