I agree with this completely. And it's due to Hollywood and the media, as you point out. But I also think that, worldwide, the US gets more than its fair share of bashing. Again, because it is so visible. Again, because of the media and Hollywood. But I still find foreigners' (perjorative sounding now) penchant (willingness would be a more objective term) for bad-mouthing the US to Americans to be an interesting phenomenon. I, for example, would never point out Taiwan's limitations (for example) in a forum dominated by Taiwanese. I would consider it rude and Ugly-American. But it is quite common for Americans to not only witness 'foreigners' bashing the US to their faces, but also accept it as par for the course. I am choosing not to do so in this case, and may get flamed for it.
