Energy prices affect the entire channel, not just shipping. It costs B&N more too, plus they have the added energy
expense of lighting, heating, etc.

The e-tailers wouldn't be affected more than anyone else.

I believe you to be wrong here. The inefficiency of home delivery will have a far greater impact on e-tailers. Most of the electrial energy is not produced by oil nor is oil used heavily in heating for commercial buildings.
