I too am very bullish about Oracle's prospects, and for the same
reasons that you describe. The only thing that isn't clear to me
is the non-trivial matter of execution. I don't know why there are
these big fluctuations in earnings, and maybe it really is the case
that you have to cook the books in database sales to smooth things
out -- if so, I'd rather ORCL didn't and just took their lumps. But
the nagging concern is that it's a sign of disorganization at some
level of the company. Either way, I'm long and committed.

Microsoft didn't spend cash to acquire Visio, it's stock for stock. And Visio gives MS Office some pretty impressive network management and diagraming capabilities, which will help extend Microsoft's reach into that market vs. AutoCAD, etc.
