Man. What a country.

I have to agree with RB on SOME of his points, and I agree with you on SOME of yours.

The 'war on drugs'. I agree with you on this one, Merritt. That it's a threat to the bill of rights. Seizure laws for example. Also, is alcohol included in this 'war'? Half the people killed in car wrecks are due to alcohol. cops tell me 90% of 'domestic' cases are alcohol related. or incited. But those manufacturers have a cash funnel into the lawmakers pockets.... Hell, in the military, the first building constructed on a new base is the NCO club. Better make that the Officer's club, THEN the NCO club.

But Robert's right about our democracy and that this country, as bad as it is, is the best. Of what I've seen anyway. I disagree with him, though on our supposed ablilty to 'throw the bums out' when we need to. It don't work. I live in a state that has 2 democrats for every republican. And my district has 4 democrats for every republican, yet we've got a repub. governor and all senators and congressmen are repubs.
And like it or not, they ALL favor big business over the worker. (period.)

speaking of big business, favoritism, and bums, I've got to go work for a while.

later, f'oz

<< You paint the conservatives in this country with a broad and slimy brush ... >>

Until I hear at least "one" conservative renounce the strong armed tactics of the Republican House for impeaching an American President without a fair hearing, I will continue to use that broad brush.

<< Such a simplistic view implies a simple mind, IMHO. >>

IMHO??? What is humble about that?

<< How are we going to "win the war on drugs" in a free society, when we can't keep them out of our most controlled population - the prisons? >>

Perhaps the answer is not in keeping drugs out. There is a tremendous need for drugs world wide. We need to address that need and find a way to address that problem. We need a national forum on what to do with the huge demand for drugs and how to best solve the problem.

Right now we take a head in sand approach to a disease called drug addiction.

I agree somewhat with your points on our politicians being self serving. I would like to see voting allowed via the Internet from our homes. It would be great if more people would exercise their voting power.
