Well you got me there. I'm in pure hunch territory here - but we have to go from Miller-Urey ammoniated snot to (?) to (?) to complete unicell with proteins, DNA, polysaccharides. All working together to eat snot and reproduce.
Without a Guiding Hand or a panspermic Cosmic Saltshaker ... I would guesstimate a good billion years while partial forms slowly duked it out. But I have nooooo good, solid facts to which I can anchor such a guesstimate.
But there's sort of an informal consensus among prebiotic chemists that a hundred million years is Pretty Short.
