I think it's going to be tough making money with buying and selling calls at the present time. Historically, September is the worst month for stocks, and usually, in mid-October, there is a steep decline in the market in general, and the Y2K bugaboo will keep a damper on the market for the rest of the year. That's the way it's been so far this year. Historically, Microsoft rises mostly between mid-January and mid-July, with a flat profile for the rest of the year, although last year it did pretty good after mid-October. (To verify, you can use this page at money.york.pa.us to quickly verify.) This year, it really hasn't done anything, nor do I think it will do anything significant until next year. If true, it would be profitable to WRITE calls on Microsoft.
