On the fundamental / technical business I wonder if the fact that "everyman" now seems to be using charts & graphs isn't negating the rationale for their usefulness in the first place? Years ago the technical department was non-existent or a light presence in the major Wall Street firms. On this thread ,at least, we seem to agree that price movements are generated by bullish or bearish fundamentals and that the charts mostly offer some additional comfort and assurance (confirmation). That's good, and
thank God for the indispensable work of Ian and John I say.

Not to cause any more consternation among the technically inclined, but I wonder if the chart action in mid-1997 also looked like a triangle consolidation pattern at the time?
