"Base price for the AirStar system is $300,000" internetwk.com
several interesting things come to mind based on this figure as well as the entire article. first the revenue projections from ML are way off and conservative is an understatement, they peuposely, I think left this out when their rating and initiation of coverage came.
case in point the 8/26 release from lucent that says BROADNET which owns 42 European markts is deploying ONDEMAND Now yes this qtr, and if that is true 42 markets need a minimum of 42 stations and perhaps even more, therefore 42x300,000=126million dollars more in line with the "hundreds of millions that BBRobertson suggested
this would overwhelm the projections for revenue for the next 3 years, I'm ROFL, folks have not even done the math.
That 8/26 release from Lucent is KEY and folks are being duped imho...about the true value of Europe's Braodnet deal.
take note that Broadnet, a Division of COMCAST...DUH is also vying for additional 19 markets(licenses) which LU-lucent is deploying ONDEMAND! references
BROADNET RELEASE lucent.com BroadNet to become largest broadband wireless operator in Germany following award of 42 largest city licenses; Lucent Technologies named preferred supplier for BroadNet's wireless broadband access network throughout Europe
FOR RELEASE THURSDAY AUGUST 26, 1999
BONN, Germany - BroadNet today named Lucent Technologies as its preferred technology partner in the rollout of its pan-European broadband wireless access network. Yesterday BroadNet was awarded 42 city licenses by Germany's regulator covering all the major financial centres, potentially making BroadNet Germany's second largest operator in the "local loop".
These are the first wireless broadband network licenses to be awarded in Europe. BroadNet plans to bid for licenses in up to 19 European markets. BroadNet plans to rollout its network in Germany with Lucent's support by the middle of 2000.
BroadNet, a pioneer wireless broadband access provider, intends to offer small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) high-speed, competitive, wireless access services in 19 European countries. Through its flexible bandwidth-on-demand ATM solution, BroadNet will provide wireless broadband capacity and promote applications that will revolutionise the way SMEs operate. Particular focus will be put on multi-media collaborative working tools such as videoconferencing, electronic commerce development and interactive customer support.
"BroadNet's vision is to bring broadband services - including voice, data, ATM, frame relay, and Internet access - within reach of the smaller enterprise," said Robert Condon, BroadNet's cofounder & CEO. "We're particularly targeting small to medium sized enterprises and home office markets. With Lucent we will help eliminate the bottleneck in the local loop and bring the information superhighway directly to the customer. The world-wide-wait is over."
Lucent is expected to provide BroadNet with a complete network covering the design, building and deployment of a pan-European wireless broadband access network, using end-to-end solutions from its portfolio of OnDemandTM wireless broadband, voice and data networking solutions. The project also calls for Lucent NetCare® Services - which include network planning, design and management - to assist BroadNet in business, network and radio-frequency planning; marketing research and project management. Lucent's NetCare portfolio can help BroadNet rapidly deploy services so they can start generating revenue. It can also evolve its networks to grow with customer demand.
"This is a big step forward in bringing choice to the local loop, " said Eric van Amerongen, president and CEO, Lucent's, Europe, Middle East and Africa region. "OnDemandTM wireless network access solutions provide network operators the multiple benefits of incremental investment and time-to-market advantages in delivering high speed data and multimedia services."
Lucent's OnDemandTM wireless broadband access system uses radio microwave transmissions instead of fibre optic cables as a cost-effective means of delivering voice, high speed Internet and multimedia services to business customers. The technology is based on an advanced ATM cell technology over the air interface to make the most efficient use of the spectrum for today's and future broadband services. The network design meets the quality of service and reliability levels required by competitive access providers, with the additional benefit of overcoming the physical constraints of copper wires or costs of fibre installation in the "last kilometre" to the customer location. "Wireless broadband access is a great investment opportunity in Europe where cable penetration is low due to costs and restrictions in build out," said Brian L. Roberts, president of Comcast Corporation. "This is therefore part of our wider broadband access strategy."
BroadNet, "the wireless broadband network", is 63% owned by Comcast International Holdings and based in Brussels, Belgium. BroadNet is committed to deploying and operating broadband wireless access networks throughout Europe, providing the business community with innovative and competitive telecommunication services in the local loop.
Comcast Corporation (www.comcast.com) is principally engaged in the development, management and operation of broadband cable networks and in the provision of content through principal ownership of QVC, Comcast-Spectacor and Comcast SportsNet, a controlling interest in E! Entertainment Television and through other programming investments. Comcast's Class A Special Common Stock and Class A Common Stock are traded on the Nasdaq Stock Market under the symbols CMCSK and CNCSA, respectively.
Lucent Technologies designs, builds and delivers a wide range of public and private networks, communications systems and software, data networking systems, business telephone systems and microelectronic components. Bell Labs is the research and development arm for the company. For more information visit Lucent's website at lucent.com.

Lucent deploys LMDS wireless broadband technology in Peru for COMSAT to offer Internet and multimedia services
FOR RELEASE WEDNESDAY MAY 26, 1999
LIMA, PERU - Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today announced that it is deploying its OnDemand wireless broadband system for service provider COMSAT Peru to offer high speed wireless Internet and multimedia services in the metropolitan Lima area. This is the first time this technology, also known as a local multipoint distribution system (LMDS), has been deployed in Latin America.
COMSAT Peru is a wholly-owned subsidiary of COMSAT International. With the deregulation of Peru's telecommunications, COMSAT Peru plans to expand its service offerings nationwide and internationally later this year.
"Lucent is demonstrating its leadership again in deploying cutting edge technology in Latin America as we install the first LMDS system in the region," said Ricardo Lanfranco, managing director for Lucent Technologies in Peru. "The OnDemand wireless broadband access solution from Lucent is an attractive option for service providers, such as COMSAT, who want to rapidly deploy data services such as high-speed Internet and multimedia services."
Service providers around the world are deploying optical network and high-speed packet technology to accommodate ever-growing amounts of data traffic spurred by the explosive growth of the Internet. But instead of installing costly dedicated leased lines or fiber optic cable to businesses, many of the newest operators are counting on wireless broadband technology to gain time-to-market advantages to reach these customers. With the Lucent OnDemand wireless system, competitive access providers with licensed spectrum can quickly deploy a connection between high-speed data networks, including optical systems, with enterprise customers.
The OnDemand family of wireless broadband systems uses microwave transmissions to deliver high speed Internet and multimedia services to business customers. The Lucent system employs point-to-multipoint microwave radio links between a strategically located hub antenna and multiple dish antennas that are installed on roofs or building exteriors at customer locations. The information reaches computer users through the enterprise's regular local area network.
The OnDemand wireless broadband end-to-end network solution incorporates the company's portfolio of data networking, optical networking, switching and access, and NetCare® consulting and integrating services.
COMSAT Peru (COMSAT Peru, S.A.) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of COMSAT International. COMSAT International, a business unit of COMSAT Corporation, provides digital networking solutions with offices in Argentina, Brazil, China, Colombia, Guatemala, India, Mexico, Peru, Russia, Turkey and Venezuela. COMSAT Corporation (NYSE: CQ), headquartered in Bethesda, Md., is a global provider of satellite services and digital networking services, products, and technology.
With a presence in 22 Latin American and Caribbean countries, Lucent Technologies has three manufacturing plants and approximately 7,500 employees in the region. Lucent Technologies supplies mobile and fixed wireless communications systems that offer global service providers standards-based solutions for serving the information needs of consumers and enterprises. =ONDEMAND
so we can clearly see that, COMSAT and COMCAST along with LU have basically teamed up as the Platform for NETRO to EXPLODE revenue wise, folks I am drawing a picture from what I can gather on the net..
you know I was wondering why NETRO has an Office in South America Netro Brazil Rua Baronesa de Itu, 459 Conjunto 12 Sao Paulo - SP 01231-001 Brazil netro-corp.com
folks I dont care what this stock does short term, but, IF COMSAT and COMCAST are DEPLOYING ONDEMAND which is exactly what the LUCENT PRESS RELEASES say the the bull_Crap revenue projections by ML is so far off it aint funny, if you note the first part of my post the first link the article states the 39GHz was not to be ready til the 3rd qtr when in fact it's being deployed which says alot about NETRO's R+D progress, this company is on fire imho, and folks have not seen it because it's over the eastern and southern horizons, NETRO is being deployed in South America by none other than hte Powerhouse COMSAT and likewise being deployed in EUROPE by none other than COMCAST, and if these units are selling for 300K per base unit that the article suggests, by selling just one unit permarket for each that COMSAT ands COMCAST own alone would make this a $BILLION REVENUE company just overnight...We are indeed at the tip of the iceberg in the wireless broadband revolution.
all of the above is of course my opinion admixed with some facts for support.
