Yeah, there's something *to that. It's not in Sun's DNA that prepares it for end user support of a consumer PC product.

250,000 downloads in 2 weeks probably created a minimum of 25-50,000 support requests, which is like 2,000 a day.

After the first couple of days, the German speaking Star Division guys probably packed it up and went skiing or found refuge in the darkest corners of the local beer halls.

You are correct. It appears that Sun jumped the gun on the StarOffice roll-out, but I suspect that even they had no idea how popular this was going to be. They need to react to this, at least say something in public like:

"Gosh, we were really amazed at how popular StarOffice has been since we announced our acquisition: so much so that we weren't able to keep up with the downloads or support questions. We're working on it, stay tuned! But look: our servers stayed up, and see what a backlash there is against the Desktop Office status-quo.".

Dream on eh? It would make a nice change from the FUD that Micro$oft sends out.
