Are those the only two choices? Unix was not the basis of AT&T's business.

It wasn't? It was the bulk of their intellectual property. It's not the government's fault that Microsoft has only intellectual property.

The government has a greater mandate, both through law and popularly to remedy Microsoft than it has to protect Microsoft's intellectual property (particularly abroad).

Gates peeks out from behind 'American ideal' schtick. In fact, it is the American ideal, if not the American precept to PUBLISH and in fact reject the royalty of intellectual property (and guys with III after their name).
