IDC Forum: Linux to storm to number two slot by 2001

Tony Picardie, IDC senior vice president of worldwide software, said that between 2000 and 2001, Linux will become the second most popular operating system for servers after Microsoft's Windows 2000.

"Currently Microsoft out ships everything, but Linux will become second most popular between 2000 and 2001. And this is our prediction only from users we can track, not from independent downloads," said Picardie.
