I think its possible, absolutely. But it is equally likely he was once a church goer for some reason was not accepted, etc. Or, he belonged to another church ala the Jewish community center incident. If you ask me, I would guess that Mark Barton (day trader shooter) was likely an atheist becuase he chose to shoot at something more meaningful to him than a church would be. I think most of these church shootings are people that are truly troubled by God, which atheists are not. Thats just a gut feel I have.
