Stephen, from the article on Merced and IBM, the story about bringing up IBM's Unix on Merced hardware, vs. on an emulator, so fast, is awesome and unheard of, in my experience. Couple this with Bear Stearns' opinion that IA-64 might get Intel GMs into the mid 60s, and we ought to have a reason for a next leg up on the stock price.

Officials from companies in the consortium, which include IBM, Intel, Sequent, Santa Cruz Operation (SCO), and
others were quick to give themselves credit for the milestone, which IBM officials said took them less than 24 hours to
achieve.

"We think getting Monterey/64 up and running on Intel hardware in such a short period of time is an extraordinary
achievement," Rajiv Samant, general manager of the Unix brand at IBM, said in a prepared statement. "With this
milestone, we have overtaken Sun [and] HP (Hewlett-Packard)."

Stephen - Re: "IBM's Monterey claims success with Merced "

This is PHENOMENAL !!!

Intel's designers have produced a tour-de-force with their Merced design and implementation.

In 5 years, this will be seen as a watershed event in the history of computing.
