I love your post, Voltaire. And it makes more sense than any of the other madness out there and the ridiculous explanations one reads every day: "Market scared by PPI, CPI, Hurricane Floyd" or "Market shrugs off PPI, CPI, Hurricane Floyd." Do think that Greenspan has his own agenda however, which influences the market, and that he is butting in where he shouldn't in some cases.

It is also interesting and quite believable that the companies work in concert with the analysts, and favors are returned. Considering how much $ for instance MSFT and DELL make on selling puts on their own stock, why wouldn't it be so?

Voltaire! A conspiracy theory of the market? The guys who shot JFK are tied up with the trilateralist's who are doing what the Queen of England tells them to?

Hell I could not prove you wrong, any more than I can prove that there are no green men on Mars running things from area 51.

But as you indicate, if they are doing these things, they can only affect the market short term. Long term, which it what we all care about. (except when I get a wild hair up my butt!), earnings will out!

Voltaire,

Thanks for the clear explanation of how things work behind them scenes. I am not big on collusin theories, but this seems very logical. I can see supplementing fundamental analysis with this "time" based approach to get exit and entry points. TA may work for some people, but it is beyond my comprehension, so I choose to ignore it for the most part.

Now I fully understand your cool headed decision to buy more on Monday.

Cheers,

Piyush
