Any thoughts on whether these Schlumberger Rambus DRAM (see article below) testers would be with a Cohu handler? Did Schlumberger have a joint announcement a while back with Cohu or was it just HP and Teradyne? The market definitely looks to be picking up. I suspect when the September (not August) bookings are published for the semi-equips we will start to see a jump from the current booking levels which are already relatively strong.

Samsung orders RDRAM testers from Schlumberger

(09/16/99, 06:45:44 PM EDT)
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Schlumberger ATE today announced that it has been selected to provide Samsung with testers for design and volume production of Rambus DRAMs. Samsung has ordered multiple RDX2200 series systems and contracted Schlumberger Advanced Business Engineering Resources (SABER) to provide engineering services to ensure the fastest ramp possible as the company ramps volume RDRAM manufacturing.

Schlumberger worked closely with Samsung for several years in the initial development of its RDRAM test technology, said Jackie Tubis, president of Schlumberger Automated Test Equipment. "Across the board, customer evaluations of the RDX2200 series have already met with outstanding success," he said. "Utilizing the industry's most demanding RDRAM test equipment evaluation process, we have confirmed our capability to deliver the speed, accuracy and repeatability across multiple sites that will enable our customers to achieve the quickest time-to-volume possible with maximum yield and productivity."

SABER services for RDRAM technology include design validation, device characterization and production.Schlumberger provides technical support in Asia via a recently opened Korea technology center in Kiheung, Korea. The facility also serves as a research and development center for next generation test techniques.

"Bringing RDRAM devices into high volume production demands a new test methodology, completely new test hardware and highly skilled resources," noted Greg Van Ess, Schlumberger vice president and general manager for semiconductor equipment in Asia. "By working in parallel with Samsung's own RDRAM design and development engineers, we can use our expert knowledge in high performance logic and memory test to help shrink the company's time to volume."
