Mike, I saw that article the other day. I think this part is key:

"There are no plans to open Internet2 for commercial or consumer use. Some people close to the project speculate that Internet2 could eventually be opened to the public, but that wouldn't likely happen for another five years, if ever."

I have seen many posts claiming that these capabilities will be broadly available "real soon". Of course, nobody ever mentions who will be delivering these capabilities to the home and how it will be done. The cable companies have already spent billions upgrading their networks - are they about to turn around and do it all again before they have realized a return on their previous investment? Or will technology improvements enable the upgraded HFC networks to deliver NGI capabilities? I don't know, but I am not expecting movies-on-demand in the home for at least a few more years - never mind personal videoconferencing. It's not that I don't believe in the future of these technologies, I just think that it some of these developments are going to take more time than many investors are anticipating. Cheers!
