thank you for your help. i will give it a go and see if there is any change. in the mean time, just fyi, i am currently running 6 windows (resource meter being one of them and norton is disabled) and my 3 resources are all at 65%. last night after being on for 14hrs i had only 2 windows running and the resource meter was in the lower yellow. i guess that win98 gets hungrier after time and needs more for less. Redmond???

Thanks Richard, I just learned how to remove some stuff from my system tray from your previous post. The run msconfig is neat, didn't know that existed until a few minutes ago.

Real Player and Jukebox is now gone from startup. <gg> They were making my system lag on startup. Probably other things there too that should be removed, but I'm afraid to fool around with it. <gg>
