I need some help / direction from the thread. It looks as though cable access through @Home will shortly be available in my area. I am considering it as an alternative to my 128mbps ISDN. (DSL is still not available)
I currently use a 3com ISDN LanModem on my ISDN. It has a 4 port hub and provides internet access for my internal network using NAT I believe (4 PC's right now.) It also functions as a DHCP server for the network. I run PC anywhere at home and the 3com allows me to log in from work. All in all a nice package. The only thing I wish I could do is to maybe run a FTP server or serve web pages.

Is all this going to be possible with cable? I know that I would replace the 3com with a network hub, no problem there. But is there a easy way to get internet access to multiple computers without paying them extra for multiple IP's? Can this only be done by running Sygate or similar on one of my workstations? I would prefer a separate hardware solution, since internet access doesn't rely on the PC that runs sygate.
Also, Is it possible to run a FTP or web server on cable? I know there is the issue of a dynamic IP address, but maybe they can issue me a static one.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Dan

Howard,

I noticed that you, too, have an ASUS P2B motherboard. My bios version is 1007 and I tried to upgrade to 1010 without any luck. Seems like I couldn't even get the aflash.exe utility working in DOS.

Any thoughts?

Regards,

Sue
