One of the advantages of the structure that Ampex adopted is that Ampex Data Systems has it's own president that can focus solely on his own business. Thus while Bramson may have his eye on video, the president of Ampex Data Systems is not overlooking any opportunity to make his own division more profitable.

Broadband viewing will be close to VHS quality. It is interesting how we have changed our tune to be more and more "generic" about our plans.

From January: Ampex Corporation, a pioneer in audio, digital video and digital image processing, has participated in the evolution of the Internet since the origins of the system in the 1980's. The Company is building a marketing-oriented organization to leverage its digital image technology and expertise internally and through selected strategic investments. The Company's goal is to develop integrated audio, video, and electronic commerce offerings for delivery over the world wide web. "By establishing an early market presence in broadband web applications," Mr. Bramson stated, "we are positioning ourselves to expand the range, content and quality of our offerings in line with future increases in the availability of high-speed Internet access."

From August: iNEXTV is also working with its parent company, digital video pioneer Ampex Corporation, on the development of enhanced video technology to be used by iNEXTV and its affiliates.

Hopefully Ed understood that by only pursuing broadband he was eliminating 95% of the market. IMO we will have three connection speeds, 28.8, 56, and 100k +.

The reason Ed started pusuing Internet video is because "This is exactly what our customers should be doing. When we looked we only found half a dozen companies doing it."

Also (paraphrased) "As a side benfit, we are forcing competition, which in turn will help sell more storage equipment."

That has been my point for several years now. VOD will drive the market for storage solutions. VOD will become a reality just as soon as broadband gathers market share and becomes as affordable as 56k connections. Broadband, wether ADSL or cable modem will provide download speeds as high as 6megs a sec and upload speeds of 560k.

AXC could not possibly have missed this need. Every TV Station, Cable Co., video company or ecommerce that wishes to sell video will require FAST access, large storage systems. AXC data systems day is swiftly approaching.
