Hey, I know some Spanish (and some Catalonian) people living right here also. Yet, no royalty present here (g). I am aware of the difference in relative economic development then and now. However, in my last few speculations I already took (favorably for you, and simply because I have no further information on that) into account that Spanish military - in that time - may have been to weak to play a role of its' own, by proposing some more passive, and logistic help. Hey, in other cases you are a geo-political buff, meaning the first asset of a Nation is its' geographical position. What's up now with you? To counter an analogy with another one: asking Cuba for positioning some nuclear arms seemed worthwile for the Soviet union. I think in WWII times Spain map position was maybe even more tempting ... But you still surprise me more on what I mentioned sub [EDIT: ] in my previous post... MNI.
