From what I have read, Amazon's auction efforts appear to be stalled - where their auction count has not grown over the past few months. Amazon may view competing against the consortium and Ebay as being more difficult (and perhaps less profitable) than joining the consortium.

While Yahoo's auction site is apparently doing better than Amazon's, they may be of the same view.

Of course, it's always possible that Amazon and Yahoo might join forces and form a separate auction consortium. However, if I were an executive working on the auction efforts at Yahoo or Amazon, I certainly would be evaluating the prospect of joining the consortium against the prospect of competing against the consortium and Ebay.
