>>> we offically have no longs.<<<

LOL Auric, what's wrong with going long?

Not as much honorable as going short but nothing to be ashamed of... <g>

Excellent Call on LIPO, Auric. I unfortunately missed it. Any call on a re-entry point? Is this what we call LIPO-suction? ;-)

ACRI: write up in today's Briefing.com: Stock Brief

Acacia Research (ACRI) Nasdaq
Here's a puzzling stock none of us at Briefing.com have ever heard of before.

MarketGuide's description is "provides investment advisory services, and management services to and makes direct investments in emerging corps." Their web site provides only a little more information: Acacia "invests in and provides management oversight to new companies that are developing proprietary products and technologies."

Are they a kind of mini-CMGI? A "pass-through" way to invest at the venture level in a variety of start-ups? Definitely needs more research.

But so far, it is pretty clear they aren't making a lot of money. Total revenue for the past six months was only $90,000. That's fifteen thousand a month.

But they have $5.7 million in cash, and about $10 million in long term assets. In fact, the revenue is probably just interest on the cash (haven't even researched the income statements yet). What are these investments? Investments in other companies? No answers from us right now, but it begs for more research.

ACRI
TTM Revenue Not meaningful (less than $400,000)
Closing Price 9/21 14 3/4

Market Capitalization (Millions) 160.0
Share Outstanding (Millions) 10.82
Float (Millions) 7.60
Price/Sales Not meaningful

One of Acacia's "affiliates," Greenwich Information Technologies, received "notice of allowance" for a patent on audio and video on-demand technology on Friday. Acacia apparently owns 33% of Greenwich. The recent rise is probably associated with this, but without any further information on Greenwich, we can't really evaluate what this patent "allowance" means. An allowance alters the terms of an existing patent.
