"PS This is all leading somewhere, but first I want to make sure I'm on the right track."

D. Newberry,
Well in a convoluted way it lead to me realize that DSL, "On Demand," has no direct relationship with the likes of what Redback Networks makes. I was just trying to put all the pieces of a DSL network together. And thanks to your answers, I now have a decent grasp. For some stupid reason I had thought Redbacks SMS system went in front of the DSLAM.

I'm just blown away at the valuation of Redback Networks. As you know, they only have a single product called a, "Subscriber Management System." For those that don't know, it's a piece of hardware/software that sits between the DSLAM (in the CO) and the service provider backbone routers.

Apparently it works pretty well because they are selling well. Supposedly Nortel has a similar system and MRVC is coming out with a competing product(someone just did a recent post upstream). Now that I understand it more, it's time for some DD.
Thanks,
MikeM(From Florida)
