I wrote << Your fear of the religious fundamentalists is irrational. >> You replied "Tell that to the women of Afganistan." Maybe we could agree to be wary of religious fanatics! I wrote << How are they supposed to change this country, by voting and influencing politics? >> You replied "Tax free earnings buys a lot of candidates and votes, either during an election or in Congress." Your implications only show the extent of your prejudices and they are numerous. What's wrong with tax-free earnings? What's wrong with buying votes? I wrote << You know if you kill all these people, then you don't have to try them and convict them of any charges, you merely "convict" them later with information not facts. >> You replied " If our government really had this policy, you would see it enforced many more times. Instead, we witness over and over again criminals taken into custody alive. I know that there are exceptions to this rule, but for the most part our system of justice tries to protect the individual." The policy you are referring to is murder. The rules of engagement for the military are very different from the police, who are there to protect and to serve, not subdue at any cost before arraignment and trial. In my neighborhood two interesting things happened. A policeman responding to a robbery at a beauty parlor,(and threatened rape of a woman and her daughter) confronted the assailant and killed him while suffering gunshot wounds to himself. He will recover. In another area close by a SWAT team broke into a man's house(a mostly Mexican-American neighborhood) on the basis of old and flimsy evidence) by shooting the locks and hinges off the door, inserting flash-bang grenade type devices and ended up shooting a 50 year old man in the back and killing him and terrorizing the rest of the family that lived there. Nothing, NOTHING was found to substantiate in the least this assault and the police acknowledged this. Point of view or perspective is everything.
