I think you have the logic reversed. People who sold calls (naked) are probably trying to buy stock (if they want to avoid being short) if the in-the-money call options are assigned. People who sold puts (which are probably out the money now) don't have to do anything since they will not be assigned.

I had sold covered calls (Sep 80s) which I bought back on Tuesday. Sold Oct 90 calls and bought Oct 85 puts today (for insurance). If history is any indication, volatility is the only thing that is assured in this marketplace. In my opinion, with rates above 6%, weak dollar, and future rate hikes not out of the question it is time for caution (I am the first to admit that a cautious stance would have kept investors on the sidelines in this latest runup - options are one way to hedge aganist volatility, but one must have the stomach to lose some money in options so as not to give up a lot of upside).
