I've changed over to the new site and actually find that
it's okay. By far the best feature is the ability to load
10 posts at once. Saves lots of time and allows for easy skimming.......

I haven't found myself transported to any advertising
sites...at least not yet!

From what I read on Welcome to SI, you are not alone in having weird experiences on the "new" SI. Also some profiles transfer while some haven't. Very strange.

I switch back and forth, depending on what I need and relative speed.
