TP and Dan,

I always liked the Hindu (I think) story that God was bored and lonely so he/she/it became the universe so he/she/it could play hide and seek with her/him/itself. If you look at the Big Bang as God becoming the universe it even fits what we observe. Of course I can see no way to put this theory to a test.

>>GOD is ALL that science ever observes
Einstein talked of God, as in "God does not play dice with the universe". If pressed he would state is was Spinoza's God, by which I think he meant there was order to the universe but no concious interference.

it is said that Einstein produced his theory of relativity in an effort to prove to himself the existence of the creator.
relativity theory does run into singularities at the boundary of the event horizon of black holes.
the singularity is anything divided by 0, or anything divided by infinity.
pretty hard to argue that happened by accident. (it does not compute).

however, stephen hawkings has , in "A Brief History of Time", explained this away using quantum mechanics. how? unfortunately, it was over a year ago... and i've forgotten most of the important bits.

TP, "...there is order to the universe but not conscious interference."

If Einstein accepted that Steves' he/she/it must have placed some order here in the beginning, I'm with him. I don't see active interference as necessary for the "ALL" science might examine, to be of god- if that's what you were driving at.

Steve, Game Theory- which should at least include the three elements: Freedom, barriers, and purpose- may suggest otherwise?

If God's wish to play is consistent with the big bang, and you say "...I can't think of a way to prove it," I say me neither! But still, the circumstantial evidence for the existence of god is strong, hence I think belief in God is logical- just not provable. Because of the existence of the old argument you brought up earlier about God creating the fossil record all at once, I must find evolution too, to be quite unprovable as our method of origin. Since neither view can be proven we might as well quite trying, and look to more productive endeavors.

I believe in god. Faith then too I have, but with logic at it's root. I can only explain: a view of this universe as an ordered and wondrous place precludes for me any reasonable doubt of an "orderer" It's hard to look at a flower without thinking it was created with thoughtful purpose. It's a civil case- I just need a preponderance of the evidence- hehehe! To doubt Gods existence just wouldn't fit the facts IMO-- !!! :-)

That said, I offer the following most profound palindrome(letters of a word or sentence read the same
backward and forward) to signify the order existing in philosophy and language- in yin and yang!

"Dogma won, I now am god."

-- created by one great friend of mine, Mr. Harry Robb, back in the mid '70's. Never before published to our knowledge, save here on SI- the premium talk site, by me! In all seriousness, it is humbling and a great prize of life to know the guy who came up with that one. :-)

Elegant, isn't it?
