<<And sure hope that the Q keeps firm control of the means to make wireless handheld appliances>>

From Calyton Christensen: "...Intel has wrought virtually all its disruptions through its customers, specializing in relatively high-margin, and ever-improving components - Microprocessors - for the deeply disruptive products - PCs -made by those customers."

Following CC's thinking wouldn't the best, most profitable game for QCOM be to become "Intel" to all of the companies who can fashion disruptive innovations using QCOM's CDMA-based products (chips, software, etc.)? An Intel for the wireless industry? Wouldn't that be sweet?
