"That's great, but I have a sneaking suspicion that as fast as tech moves, there might be a move to integrate the ASIC onto/into a Semi chip. Is this physically possible? Know what I mean?"

I thought an ASIC was a semiconductor chip? But if you mean integrate the handset asic into the CPU of a laptop or PDA, I don't think it will happen anytime soon. I think the "handset" ASIC might belong on the motherboard. Many new laptops have modems and video chips on the motherboard but I am not aware of any plans to integrate them on the CPU.
