gbh --

I'm like a broken record when it comes to short-term vs. long-term discussions. As you know, I'm a long term holder and what impacts the company short-term holds as much interest as Mississippi gossip on a hot August night. It passes the time.

You hit the nail on the head when you say there's not much that will push the stock up at this point. When a company's in favor any news will drive it north. Witness Cisco's Cerent acquisition. When a company's not in favor, the reverse happens. No use wasting press on a show-me audience. Short of blowing out earnings --- two months out --- the only news that will have much impact is one with dollars and dates, preferably with an impressive name. I could be wrong, but a $500 million BT order would probably have less impact than $200 million from WCOM. You know how undiscerning stone-throwers are --- any way to negate the news they will.

Two other announcements could turn the stock: a major alliance with a multinational or the release of the 50/320 with shipping dates this calendar year. I'm counting on the latter and suspect they'll use Telecomm '99 in Geneva for an announcement of this magnitude. Again, I could be wrong.

Unlocking the secrets of the crypt isn't easy . . .
