I will call omnipoint tomorrow. Thanks for the help. I looked into rental of a GSM phone but the rental rates are around $150 for the two weeks (I mind as well buy a phone for that) and the cost of usage is much higher than if I got on an interntaional plan with a provider before leaving. The rental places mark up the minute costs almost 10X that offered by plans. Thank you for the assistance.

Mardy, Do you know if your son purchased the GSM 900/1900 dualband model I888. About a month ago I was talking to an Omnipoint exec and he mentioned that they did not have the dual mode version of the I888 yet. I inferred they had a single band model but didn't drill down on it. I notice on the Omnipoint site that (unlike the description of the Bosch worldphone which is described as "GSM 900/1900 dualband for international roaming") there is no mention of dualband (or any frequency) in the I888 description. - Eric -
