Not sure what "water gravy" is. Never been too poor to have bouillion cubes, they don't cost much, and make pretty good gravy. I've been broke enough to have nothing to eat at all, once, just once. And I've been broke enough to have nothing to eat but rice, and whatever condiments were in the cabinet.

I can squeeze a nickle so tight that the Indian cries.

Edit: upon consideration, I don't know anyone as poor as black slaves were, and I bet THEY never ate water gravy. My hunch is that the people who ate it or eat it are white, of English extraction. Just a hunch. In case it isn't obvious, I believe the best cooks are either French, or black, preferably both.
