< The debate is whether this sale is immediately accretive,>

Sorry, shouldn't have butted in... didn't know this was the issue...

I will say that longer term, assuming both markets are large enough, you want to be where the margins are. I would also say that theoretically I'd like to see Q involved with enabling the 'cutting edge' vendors [various collaborations] rather than worrying about phone manufacture because because new 'devices' [browser's etc?] are going to move up transfer to CDMA IMO.

"The debate is whether this sale is immediately accretive, and I think it is a good bet that it isn't. (However, if the handset margins have really really slid, then maybe it is. However it is almost certainly not immediately accretive compared to what we were all expecting for handset margins as of last quarter - 10% OM this Q.) Read Idler's notes from the conference - Thornley talks about accretiveness and the fact that ASICs will eventually make up for the handsets."

Clark the sale will be imidiatly acreative to earnings. This was reported at the analyst meeting. I think the handset division margins have been padded by ASICS for some time. This is similear to what happened to the INFRA division, but maybee not as severe. The comment by Thornly was reffering to revenues being made up by ASICS.
