John,

I know my question is not dumb, but tech can be very intimidating to the non-EE. My thinking is that one of these days soon, we will see wireless laptops, and I can't wait!

So, I guess you are agreeing that these wireless laptops will probably contain a P3 and a CDMA ASIC, right? Sounds OK by me.

Thanks for your answer!

The earlier qcom asics used an 186 core for the cpu. They have gone to a risc chip (arm7tdmi from england I think) mainly to save power, well lots of things now that I am looking at that page. Intel has a lot of extra baggage in the newer cpu chips in order to be compatible with the "features" in the previous ones. Go to the qcom site
qualcomm.com
and if you have a fast link to the net and a laser printer, print out the databook. Almost one inch thick. Page on MSM3000 gives the enhancements, lots of good data. Maybe you have seen it, if not good to read over. I spent several days reviewing the databook. ARM has 4 gb memory space, etc. That should cover any memory needed to call home:-)
